Winehouse family consider memorial concert'

26th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse's family are reportedly keen to arrange a memorial concert in her honour.

The singer died on Saturday at her London home. She passed away in bed and although a post-mortem has taken place the results were inconclusive. Toxicology results will take several weeks to come through, with Amy's family said to think she died of either a seizure or heart attack.

Her funeral will take place today, with only family and close friends invited. It's been claimed her father Mitch and mother Janis do want to stage a larger tribute to their daughter though, and are considering asking artists to take to the stage to celebrate her life.

"There will be no shortage of people wanting to sing. She struck a chord with so many. It's an idea at the moment but hopefully the balls can be set in motion over the next few months when it isn't so raw," a source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror.

A host of stars have already spoken of their grief following Amy's death aged 27. Adele, Kelly Osbourne, Russell Brand and Lady Gaga have all used their blogs or Twitter to remember the star, with George Michael one of the latest to mark her passing.

"Amy was, in my opinion, the most soulful vocalist this country has ever seen. And her album Back to Black was the best album I had heard since the seventies. No question," he wrote on Twitter. "It's a tragedy on two levels. Most important of course, the waste of such a young life and the pain of those who knew and loved her... but it's also a tragedy for all of us that we won't be hearing the exquisite music that she would have given us if fate had spared her life."

Amy battled addictions to drink and drugs throughout the latter years of her life. There was speculation she died from a drugs overdose following claims she was seen buying substances on Friday, but it's thought no drug paraphernalia was found in her home after her death. A member of her security team found her dead in bed after she'd gone for a sleep, and new reports suggest she may have been on an alcohol binge. (C) Cover Media
