The man who gave love a life on big screens, Yash Chopra passed away yesterday, 21st October, 2012 at the age of 80. Suffering from dengue, the famous director, producer and screen-writer was admitted to the hospital on October 13, and after battling the illness for several days, this great man breathe his last on Sunday.
Yash Chopra, was a romantic dominant who ruled the Hindi cinema. His work has created waves of passionate and intense love stories in the sea of Bollywood. His career spanned over five decades creating over fifty movies, making him one of the best film-makers of Indian cinema.
Born to a Punjabi family on September 27, 1932, Yashji was the youngest of the eight siblings. He originally wanted to pursue engineering, but his love for film-making made him move to Mumbai, thus assisting I.S. Johar and then his brother B.R. Chopra.
Chopra's first movie as a producer was 'Daag' and his directorial debut was 'Dhool Ka Phool'. He then rose to fame with the movie 'Waqt' that stars Sunil Dutt, Sharmila Tagore and more, making him the pioneer of multi-starrer movies in Bollywood.
He has worked with actors like Amitabh Bachchan directing the action thriller 'Deewar', portraying Bachchan saheb as the 'angry young man' of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan also made his debut with the movie 'Darr' produced by Chopra which was a major box-office hit. The latter has worked with the film maker in many movies, his latest being 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', where Yashji frankly stated that this would be his last film.
A founder of the production company Yash Raj Films, Chopra had made all his movies under his own production banner, which is one of today's most popular production houses in India.
Yash was married to Pamela Singh and the couple have two sons Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra, who also work in the Bollywood film industry.
