'YJHD' in trouble?

3rd June 2013
With the movie grossing around 60 crores just in its opening weekend, Ayan Mukerji’s directorial project 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone has already been declared a superhit.

While the movie has been receiving rave reviews by the critics, the audiences, as well as the Bollywood fraternity simply cannot stop singing praising it, the movie is not going quite well for one high-profile biggie.

This past weekend saw an off screen drama when Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his discontent related to the credits in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'. The CM claimed that many shots from the movie, which were portrayed as being shot in Manali were in fact shot in the scenic city of Gulmarg in Kashmir.

Omar got to the social media platform to express that it was quite irritating when his state rolled out the red carpet and facilitated the shoot of the movie only to have the audiences believe that it was Manali.

The CM also questioned whether Karan Johar's Dharma Productions had given credits to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the movie.

With open accusations by an influential and prominent figure like CM Omar Abdullah, it sure turned out to be a busy weekend for Dharma Productions, who ended up releasing the statement that the opening credit slate clearly mentions Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Tourism Minister GA Mir and Inspector-General of Police SM Sahal. The names of the entire crew in Kashmir had been mentioned in the credits of the film.

Not that 'YJHD' needed it, but free press is always good for a movie.
