Ratings: 3/5

Love is in the air...

Dhanush's bilingual film '3' that released in Tamil as well as Telugu was the most awaited movie of the current times because of more reasons than one. One being, the sleeper hit 'Kolaveri Di' track and the other is it being Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya's debut directorial with her husband Dhanush in the cast. There were certainly a lot of expectations slung to it. So does it fulfill these expectations? Well, yes it does and far beyond that.

Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in 3Ram (Dhanush) sees a beautiful girl Janani (Shruthi Haasan), drenched in rain, busy repairing her cycle amidst the Chennai traffic. Now, who would not fall in love? So does Ram. Ram tries to woo Janani and after a little romance, the two take the wedding vows.

But there is a twist to the tale, when Ram and Janani come to know that Ram is suffering from a psychological disorder. What happens in the climax is better to watch on the big screen.

Dhanush puts up a wonderful act and deserves all the accolades. Be it as the school boy, or a married man, he plays his part convincingly. Shruti Haasan is decent too. What impresses more is her chemistry with Dhanush. The rest of the cast supports well but the girl who plays Shruthi's sister outshines all.

'3' movie still The interesting part about the film is the way Aishwarya has narrated her debut film. Starting the film with a suicide note and thus hinting the audience that this is more than just a love story is what she should be lauded for. Also, handling the suspense well is a plus point. She also managed to take the best out of the actors.

The first half is really gripping while the second half loses momentum at a point where the audience might get the overdose of tears and melodrama. Had the editing in the second half been crisper, the film would have been nearly flawless.

Cinematography by Velraj is impeccable, while there are actually no words that we have for the music. On the whole, the film is definitely a good watch with your family this weekend. And in case you are wondering why the film is titled '3', well there is an answer that we would like you to find out only after watching it.
