Akon forgot the words to his new track while performing recently.

The R&B star appeared at a weekly music event called Avenue A Soundcheck, which is held at The Double Seven venue in New York City.

Akon was revealing some new songs to the audience, but it all went wrong when he started singing his version of Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye.

After asking for the music soundtrack to stop, New York Post reports the 39-year-old star told the crowd: "Excuse me, I just made this song, like, last week, so I'm still learning the lyrics, OK?"

The track features on his upcoming mix tape which is called Konkrete Jungle and hits stores in July. It has been mixed by DJ Whoo Kid & Evil Empire.

Akon has taken some time off recently due to disagreements with music labels. He used the down period to talk to his fans about what they wanted, which is when he came up with the idea for the mix tape.

In September, it will be followed up by a full-length album called Stadium which the star has promised is "a piece of everything... this big, huge event looking to gather people from all over the world".
