National Awards which were announced in March were presented on May 3, 2016 in New Delhi. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan received the National Award for playing the lead role of a 'constipated father' in Shoojit Sircar's 'Piku' co- starring Deepika Padukone.

The actor was followed by his wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the ceremony. Mr. Bachchan was overwhelmed after receiving the award and took to twitter to express his feelings.

He said, "T 2245 - Back now 3:54 am from Delhi and National Award ! So humbled and touched, for President of India to take my name in his speech !"

He also posted some pictures from the ceremony where he is seen receiving the award from the President.

Along with Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut won the National Award for Best actress for her double role in the film 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', actress Kalki Koechlin received the Special Jury Award for 'Margarita With A Straw' and filmmaker Kabir Khan received Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award for his film 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan.'
