Amrish Puri's 7th Death Anniversary

Best known for playing the  character of "Mogambo" Amrish Puri's deep, voice still haunts in the memories of his million fans worldwide.  Amrish Puri has acted in over 240 films in his highly successful career which spanned over 35 years. On his death anniversary scores of let us take a moment and pay their respects to the man who people loved to hate.

Though he had a very small role in "Prem Pujari", his first major role was in Sunil Dutt's "Reshma Aur Shera". After that, he appeared as the baddie in many films such as Shyam Benegal's "Nishant", "Manthan" and "Bhumika" and "Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda".  He continued to dominate the screen as one of B'Town's favourite villains in the 80's. He has also starred in films like Qurbani, "Naseeb", "Hero", "Coolie", "Mashaal", "Meri Jung", "Janbaaz", "Dance Dance" and most notably as Mogambo in Shekhar Kapur's "Mr. India". He also made a mark on the international film scene as Khan in Richard Attenborough's "Gandhi" and as Mola Ram in Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom".

Amrish received his first Filmfare Award for 'Best Supporting Actor' for "Meri Jung" in 1986. In the 90s, he stared appearing in largely positive roles in popular films such as "Vijeta", "Chachi 420", "Pardes", "Ghatak: Lethal", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" and even won Filmfare Awards for 'Best Supporting Actor' for the last two. Some of his other memorable films after 2000 include "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke" , "Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai", "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha", "Aitraaz" and "Hulchul". His last film was "Aitraaz" where he played the role of a middle aged man married to a young woman. His wife's role was played by Priyanka Chopra.

The veteran actor passed away on 12th January, 2005 at the age of 72.

One of the most loved film personalities, both on and off the screen, Amrish Puri's death has left a huge void in Bollywood. Movie-lovers across the world celebrate the birth anniversary of a supremely talented actor, one who Steven Spielberg referred to as his "favorite villain- The best the world has ever produced and ever will!"
