Amy Winehouse cancels European shows

20th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse has cancelled part of her European tour after she was booed off stage.

The troubled British singer, who has battled problems with drugs and alcohol and recently spent time in rehab, was jeered at a gig in Serbia in the first night of her 12-date tour. Amy reportedly arrived an hour late, dropped the microphone, mumbled during songs, wandered around aimlessly and eventually stumbled off the stage. Her performance on Saturday night was branded a "scandal" and "disaster" by critics.

The 27-year-old star has now announced she will not perform in Istanbul tonight or Athens on Wednesday.

"The singer would like to say sorry to fans expecting to see her in Turkey and Greece, but feels that this is the right thing to do," a statement from Amy's spokesperson said. "Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfil these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home."

Amy recently spent a week at The Priory clinic in London, with her representative explaining she had "embarked on a treatment programme". It was reported the singer had been banned from drinking alcohol on tour. (C) Cover Media
