11th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse advised her goddaughter not to be too cheesy or too much like Pavarotti when she was recording her new album.

The British singer helped launch the career of Dionne Bromfield in 2009, when she released her debut record. The 15-year-old is signed to Amys record label, and is now back with a new release called Good for the Soul.

She explained Amy has been with her every step of the way as she wrote and recorded the LP and gave her some invaluable advice.

Lyric wise, she told me, You dont want to be too cheesy, you dont want to be like Steps. And I was like, OK then! And she was like, But you dont want to be too classical like Pavarotti, Dionne laughed to Newsbeat.

Shes just been a massive help and, I mean, shes won five Grammys so Im not going to say no to her. Always in the studio, if I needed help with a certain way of how to phrase things shed always be there to help me.

Amy, 27, taught Dionne how to warm up her voice before recording and also advised her on how to sing some of her tracks. Dionne didnt always agree with what her mentor asked her to do, but admits in the end Amy was usually right.

When it came to actually singing the songs shed be like, I think you should do this riff in it. And Id saying, Really? So Id do it and not really like it and shed say, Listen to it back, five times. And after I listened to it back I did like it, so she was a massive help, the star explained. (C) Cover Media
