Amy Winehouse planned to adopt girl

31st July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse was in the process of adopting a girl from St Lucia, it has been reported.

The tragic singer, who died last week at the age of 27, had already begun the process of becoming the legal mother of 10-year-old Dannika Augustine.

The star had met the little girl during her extended stay on the Caribbean island in 2009 and had often been photographed walking along the beach with the pretty child.

"Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me," Dannika told British newspaper The Mirror. "She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me."

The girl's grandmother, Marjorie Lambert, revealed that Amy had hired lawyers to help her with the adoption process. The jazz diva is also believed to have booked a flight to visit Dannika next week before she passed away.

"Amy loved Dannika with all her heart. I don't know why Amy took to Dannika above all the other children on the island, but from the moment they met they were inseparable. They would spend all day playing, horse-riding and walking up and down the beach hand-in-hand," Marjorie said. "Amy used to beg me: I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.' She was prepared to move to St Lucia to be her full-time mum. Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that a third posthumous album of the singer is likely to be released next year. Amy, who was sporadically working on new material, had recorded up to twelve demo songs, which could be produced with her vocals and the help of contributors. According to an insider, the tracks are autobiographic accounts of her split from ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil. (C) Cover Media
