While casting for the role of an international war journalist ,the makers of
'Madras Cafe' were looking for an actress with global appeal, not to mention, the spunk required to pull off the role and they looked no further than
Nargis Fahkri, who shot to fame with her debut in
Imtiaz Ali's
'Rockstar'.
While the actress is popularly spoken about for her unique looks and screen presence, director
Shoojit Sircar promises to introduce to audiences a new facet of the actress that is sure to take them by surprise.
Says Shoojit Sircar, "I was looking for somebody to fit the look of a foreign war correspondent. An Indian girl who works abroad and has an accent. I have already worked with her in a commercial much before Rockstar. Imtiaz Ali took her in his film after watching that commercial. When I met her and told her about this role, she was sceptical and asked me whether I was sure of casting her. I think half the work is done if the casting is right."
Shedding more light on the film says Sircar, "Madras Cafe is conspiracy espionage in the backdrop of the Lankan war. The crux of the story is how it affects the officer's life."
The film is scheduled to release on 23rd August 2013.
