Brad Pitt is using a cane after injuring his leg while protecting his daughter from a fall.

The 48-year-old Hollywood actor has been spotted using a walking stick and limping this week in Los Angeles. His partner Angelina Jolie has now revealed that the hunk twisted his knee and suffered some ligament damage while the family were skiing.

Brad had been holding his three-year-old daughter Vivienne when they tumbled over on the slopes. He injured himself as he tried to make sure she wasn't hurt.

The couple attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival's Annual Awards Gala on Saturday night. As they walked the red carpet, Angelina insisted Brad is healing well.

"Everything becomes such a huge thing doesn't it? Vivi's okay. She was absolutely fine. He took the fall. It was just to make sure," Angelina told the US edition of OK! magazine. "When Maddox was younger, I took a fall and cracked my elbow because I wanted to make he wasn't injured."

The 36-year-old beauty also revealed injured Brad is helping out with household chores and looking after their six children.

"He's not that kind of guy. He does everything still," she explained when asked if he was relying on Angelina to run the house. "I like the cane!"

Angelina went on to speak about her late mother Marcheline Bertrand.

When asked if her mom had ever been put in a position where she had risked her own safety to protect her daughter, Angelina was confident she would have done.

"My mother's not alive. I couldn't ask her," she replied. "Every parent will stand in the line of fire for their kids. It's quite a normal thing."

The couple attended the gala event in Los Angeles because Brad was being honoured for his work on Moneyball and Tree of Life.

When asked when she feels most proud of Brad, Angelina replied: "When I see his films."
