Angelina Jolie reveals that her newest film was a "meditation on violence."
The actress has been a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador since 2001.
Since her initial commitment to the role a decade ago, Angelina has been exposed to several atrocities in war-torn countries around the world.
Her newest movie In the Land of Blood and Honey, which is set during the Bosnian War, is a reflective piece about the aftermath of violence she's witnessed.
"After travelling ten years around the world and visiting post-conflict situations and meeting with people and victims of war, I sat down one day and just wanted to try to write as a mediation, to think about these things that weigh on my mind -intervention, violence against women, man's inhumanity to man," Angelina explained to ET Online.
"I wrote it thinking that nobody was going to ever see it, and I was going to hide it, and then one day somebody saw the script and said it's not that bad, you should send it out."
Although Angelina is a staunch campaigner for human rights, the actress is also a doting mother.
She loves to treat her six children with partner Brad Pitt to a special treat every now and then.
"They're really good," Angelina gushed.
"They just got something to play with on the plane at FAO Schwartz in New York City. It just looks like a lot of toys because there's so many kids."
Angelina's children also act as muses from time to time.
"I wrote some [film] scenes in [my daughter] Shiloh's art class, which is so weird," she laughed.
