(Cover) - EN Movies - Anna Massey has passed away at the age of 73.

Anna regularly appeared on the small and big screen, winning several awards including a BAFTA for her role in 1986's television adaptation of Hotel du Lac. It has been revealed that she had been suffering from cancer.

"Actress Anna Massey CBE passed away peacefully on Sunday 3rd July, with her husband and son by her side," her agent explained in a statement.

"She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a cherished grandmother, a generous colleague and, always, a consummate professional. She will be greatly missed."

As well as starring in Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy in 1972, other notable screen credits include notorious thriller Peeping Tom and The Importance of Being Earnest. She was often seen portraying maids or aunts.

Born in 1937 to acting parents, she made her stage debut when she was 17. Despite her success Anna always regretted not putting more effort in at school.

"I left school at 15 and was brought up by friends telling me what to read. I'm always saying that I should have gone to university but I probably wouldn't have got in at the time," she said in a 2004 interview. "I was so badly educated, there was no bloody hope."

She married actor Jeremy Brett in 1957 but divorced four years later. "Actors marrying each other is not a good idea," she has been quoted as saying.

She married her second husband, scientist Uri Andres, in 1988, three months after they first met. (C) Cover Media
