(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Anthony Mackie believes friend Ryan Gosling is hugely "talented".

Ryan's career has been flourishing of late, with the actor taking leading roles in blockbusters like Drive and George Clooney helmed film The Ides of March.

Ryan and Anthony star together in upcoming movie Gangster Squad.

Anthony is elated to see his friend Ryan doing so well professionally.

"Ryan has been a friend of mine for a long time, since [the film] Half Nelson," Anthony explained to MTV News at the red carpet premiere of movie Real Steel this week.

"I'm glad he's finally in a position where he's getting his just due because he is really one of the most talented actors of his generation."

Gangster Squad is based on a series of in depth articles written for the Los Angeles Times by Paul Lieberman. The articles chronicled the Los Angeles Police Department's war on mobster Mickey Cohen.

Ryan has the leading role in the film adaptation, portraying Sergeant Jerry Wooters and Anthony has a supporting role portraying Coleman Harris. Although Anthony did not disclose the significant details of the film, he did confirm that audiences will be exhilarated by the exciting feature.

"Gangster Squad is just a bunch of great guys," Anthony said.

"Ruben [Fleischer] is a great director and the story is kind of funky and it's a part of LA history that a lot of people don't know. It's going to be a cool movie."

Gangster Squad will be in cinemas October 2012. (C) Cover Media
