Arekti Premer Golpo Refused Nandan Screening

28th December 2010

December 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Kaushik Gangulys project on alternative sex has drawn the ire of the Nandan authorities. The state controlled theater in Kolkata, which has always been known to screen offbeat movies in the past, has surprisingly censored the Arekti Premer Golpo makers from screening the much talked about film in its premises. According to reports circulating in the media, the reason for which Arekti Premer Golpo was refused a Nandan screening is the content of the film! A theater which has always opened its doors for movies from all across the world in spite of its adult content, has today refused to screen Arekti Premer Golpo only because of the fact that it deals with homosexuality!

The Nandan authorities have reported that it was Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who directed the theater not to screen Arekti Premer Golpo. In spite of the fact that the Kaushik Ganguly production has received the clearance certificate from the censor board in India, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee find the subject of homosexuality unsuitable for the Kolkata audience! Somebody should also remind the CM that we live in the 21st century where a same sex relationship has been declared legal even in a developing country like India.

Arekti Premer Golpo is the debut of Rituparno Ghosh as actor. His performance has received accolades ever since the film hit theaters last Friday. In a statement to the media, Kaushik Ganguly said that he was extremely disappointed with the decision of Nandan, stressing on the fact that his film could do well even if Nandan turns it down. Well, Kaushik Ganguly and his Arekti Premer Golpo team have just emerged victorious..
