Ashley Jensen: LA Limelight doesnt interest me

18th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ashley Jensen has revealed she hides away from the spotlight in Los Angeles.

The Scottish-born actress is best known for her role in American television show Ugly Betty and recently lent her voice to hit animated movie Gnomeo & Juliet. Ashley admits it was a huge culture shock when she moved to the US to pursue her movie career and she still hasnt quite adjusted to life in LA. She tends to avoid attending red carpet events, but has confessed it is an intriguing city in which to people watch.

It can be [crazy] if you sort of embrace yourself in that world, but I kind of hide away and have quite a quiet life, she said during an interview with British television show Daybreak. I think if you are in your 20s and you are going out on the town and involving yourself in all that, then maybe, but it is quite good to watch from the outside watch the craziness and see the craziness from people.

When I first came here I saw people literally walking giant lizards while other people were walking their dogs up the canyon, or people walking up the canyon backwards so they could exercise the backs of their leg muscles. All that is quite fascinating to watch.

Ashleys latest project sees her starring in British television drama The Reckoning.

In the show, she plays a mother who is faced with an impossible dilemma in order to save her child, who has cancer. The storyline is a stark departure from the 41-year-old stars usual comedic roles, but she relished the opportunity to return to her acting roots.

I started off doing quite a variety of things from theatre and Shakespeare to new writing and TV then I kind of got slotted into comedy. I think I wanted to just go back to doing something that I had originally started doing. I wanted to look for the truth in the line rather than the truth and the laugh in a line, she explained. It is a real big moral question. And I hope it makes the audience think, What would I do? It is not all that cut and dried. (C) Cover Media
