(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ashton Kutcher believes the popularity of social networking makes relationships disposable.
The 33-year-old actor is a known fan of technology, famously posting a picture of wife Demi Moore in her underwear on microblogging site Twitter in 2009.
The star worries over the influence garnered by such sites and text messaging, as it results in less personal contact with one another.
I think theres a couple of elements to it. I think its accelerating relationships but its also making them very disposable. The notion that you can just un-friend someone at the push of a button is kind of frightening, he told Cover Media. At the same time it used to be, you know, you meet someone, go on a date, four, five dates, you gradually get to know them and you learn a little bit about them.
As a result, Ashton believes many people struggle to interact on a one-on-one basis. The star blames the dependence on networking sites that inevitably creates false bonds between their users.
That trust element and one-to-one vulnerability is slowly disappearing. Now the largest fear in the world is to speak in public and why do we fear? We fear of stumbling, he added.
Ashton cited Facebook as a case in point, where cyber friends are able to monitor intimate details about each other without investing personal time. However, he stressed the importance of joining such sites as they do have additional benefits.
Now, you know, one date, maybe even before that first date, you go on Facebook, you know who their friends are, you know who all your friends are in common, about their family, what they do for a living, what they ate yesterday, what they did for Christmas, right, so all that information makes us feel very familiar with people we meet, he said. Im very tech forward viscerally connecting with someone is really important. (C) Cover Media
