Atul Kasbekar opens up on Neerja Bhanot's family payment issues

24th May 2017

Sonam Kapoor starrer 'Neerja' was amongst one of those films of the year 2016 which not only gained appreciations from the masses and National Award but also gained a whopping 125 crore box-office collection. In the recent past the Bhanot family threatened the filmmakers to drag them into the court for "not honouring their commitment to share 10 percent of the box office collections with the Neerja Bhanot Trust and the family," but now producer Atul Kasbekar has clarified all the rumours and put an end to the issue.

An excerpt from his statement on his Facebook wall reads, "All financial transactions post release have been shared with the Bhanot family immediately and in a transparent manner. Their share of the profits, which is a share of ours, has been immediately offered. They have declined to accept the same and now wish to get a share of the studio profits. This is effectively a retrospective negotiation and not as per what is signed by them years ago."

Neerja Bhanot's brother Aneesh Bhanot had earlier said, "I will not comment on this issue at this stage. All I can tell you is that we will not tolerate injustice."

'Neerja' was based on the life of Neerja Bhanot who lost her life while fighting with the hijackers on the Pan-Am flight on September 5, 1986 at Karachi International airport in Pakistan.
