Bejawada sets a trend

8th December 2011

The Naga Chaitanya starrer 'Bejawada', produced by Ram Gopal Varma, has set an example which could be followed by filmmakers all over India.

According to sources, the government was very impressed with the idea of displaying an on-screen tickr  which talks about the ill effects of smoking, whenever a character smokes in the film.

Information reportedly sent by the Andhra Pradesh Tobacco Control Cell to Union Health Ministry says in all ten scenes of smoking in 'Bejawada', 'the tickr warnings have been displayed'.

The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Rules 2011, which came into effect from November 14, made it mandatory for the actors who smoke on screen to give a disclaimer regarding the ill-effects of such products in the beginning and halfway through the film. However, it is alleged that many filmmakers are not following the rule.
