In recent times, Bharathiraja hasn't been able to come up with commendable movies. Though his previous release 'Bommalattam' had critical acclaims, the producers couldn't get good profits. His new film is titled 'Kizhakku Seemaiyile Appan Aatha'. The film will have a mix of newcomers and established artists of Tamil film industry. The film is said to be loosely based on the novel 'Ponniyin Selvan' and Bharathiraja has adapted it to the modern version.

The film revolves around a young and rich businessman abroad, making his way back to his hometown in Tamil Nadu after a long time. What happens when he comes here and meets the people and is exposed to a different ambience, forms crux of the story… The filmmaker is planning to make the film stylishly and all the songs are expected to be shot in abroad.
