Blake Lively: Mom didnt make money from me

14th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Blake Lively thinks her mother is remarkable because she has never tried to take advantage of her success.

The 23-year-old actress shot to fame playing Upper East Side princess Serena Van Der Woodsen in US teen drama Gossip Girl. Blakes mother is a Hollywood manager, but has never asked to manage her daughters career or attempted to use her to make money.

Blake is eternally grateful her mother has kept business and family separate, unlike so many other star parents.

No, she stayed out, Blake said when asked if her mother tried to get involved with her career when she started getting successful. All my siblings were in this business at this point, but she was like, No, I dont think business and family mix.

I think thats so remarkable because so many mothers just love to get in and be a part of it and the financial benefits. They take a commission of your money, and I think you should be able to give them what you want rather than be obliged to pay your mother. It just seems really strange, like rent.

Blakes father and siblings are all actors. They encouraged Blake to follow in their footsteps from a young age, but she rebelled right up until she was forced to go to her first audition in her late teens.

Because my family was in the business, acting was the last thing I wanted to go into. I worked my whole life to get into university, then went to an audition in my junior year because my brother made me. And once I did it I realised I loved acting, Blake told the British edition of OK! magazine. (C) Cover Media
