Bob Weide: Woody Allen is back on top

(Cover) - EN Movies - Bob Weide has said that at 75, Woody Allen is still "on top".

The producer, who has worked on a documentary about the legendary filmmaker, explained that every time people assume Woody's career is finished, he'll bring out another hit movie.

His documentary will take a look at the notoriously shy director's life and career and boast unprecedented access to the star filmmaker.

"Every time people sort of assume he's down and out or played out, along comes a Match Point, a Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a Midnight in Paris, and he's back on top and no stopping him," he commented during a TCA panel discussion. "The big shock is, Woody is 75 years old, he's done a film a year for 42 years, and Midnight in Paris is his biggest money-maker. It's going to hit $90 million worldwide."

The producer also revealed that Woody is in a very unique situation when it comes to securing financing for his films.

According to Bob, he is the only director whose financiers don't read the scripts.

"Woody has the situation that as far as I know, nobody has. The people who finance his films don't even read a script. This is a precedent that was established with his first film in 1969, Take the Money and Run. He delivered it on time and on budget, and nobody messed with him. This is the scam he's pulled off for over 40 years now." (C) Cover Media
