Boy George: Performing live is everything

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Boy George says his records are like postcards he uses to show people what hes doing.

The British singer is currently promoting his latest record Ordinary Alien, which is his first album in ten years. He is amazed by how much the industry has changed in that time, revealing he now sees performing live as the mainstay of his career.

The artist real name George ODowd says records have just become a snapshot which musicians use to show their fans the direction they are going in, but its at concerts where their creativity really shines.

People dont really buy records anymore they steal them, which is outrageous seeing as the tracks are only 99p its hardly expensive, he fumed. I think now the live thing is really where its at because you cant be copied, you cant download a live situation. People film everything of course, thats part of the culture, but the live thing is really the future. Records are kind of like a postcard to tell people what youre doing, but they dont make up much of your income.

George is also a famous DJ, who travels the world spinning tunes. It was that branch of his career which actually helped him release Ordinary Alien, and he is constantly amazed by the opportunities it has presented him.

Well, I wasnt with a label for a long time. Just by chance I started to work with an independent label, through my DJing. Sometimes things just happen like that, when you stop doing something. Id been DJing, I have been making music and writing with other people, but I havent physically put a proper album out for ten years which is bizarre, he told British TV show This Morning.

Its very connected to what I do as a DJ. The DJ world is its own little universe. A lot of the records that I play in a club you probably wont hear. Its worldwide though, I travel everywhere as a DJ its amazing. I could work every day but I usually just do Friday and Saturday unless its really special. (C) Cover Media
