Brad Pitt in the running for a BAFTA

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig and George Clooney have all been named in the first long list of BAFTA nominations.

The initial list for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards has been released.

The long lists of 15 will be whittled down to only five nominations with a round of voting. The short lists will be announced on January 17. The winners will then be announced at the official ceremony in London.

So far many big names are vying for the prize of Best Actor. Brad mentioned for his portrayal of Billy Beane in Moneyball, Daniel has received recognition for the English language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and George Clooney has received a nod for his role in The Descendants.

Ryan Gosling has two performances in the running, for his roles in Drive and The Ides of March.

Ralph Fiennes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender, Antonia Banderas and Gary Oldman are more big names included in the category so far.

In the Best Actress list, awards favourite Meryl Streep has a nod for her performance in The Iron Lady.

Rooney Mara also has a chance for her role as the heavily pierced Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as does Kristen Wiig for last year's hit comedy, Bridesmaids.

Other big names in the category are Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Tilda Swinton and Jodie Foster.

The Best Film list currently features The Artist, which has been receiving critics' choice awards worldwide.

The Iron Lady, which follows the life of British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher is laos featured as is Martin Scorsese's family film, Hugo.

The 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards will be held on February 12.
