Brian May hated curly locks

6th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Brian May hated his trademark hair when he was younger.

The musician is famous for being the guitarist in the massively successful rock band Queen, and also wrote many of their most famous hits.

But Brian is just as noted for the incredible lock of black curls which tower over his head.

Yet, despite being widely adored for this feature, he admits that his hair disappointed him as its not the same as his peers manes.

It is what it is. I generally hated my hair when I was a kid because it was curly, the 63-year-old told Q magazine. I felt like there was something wrong with me because it wouldnt do what other peoples hair would do. Then Jimi Hendrix made it OK to have curly hair and be cool and so from then on I just let it do its own thing.

Brian teamed up with vocalist Freddie Mercury, bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor in Queen, and the band celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Queens back catalogue is being re-released to mark the occasion. And Brian has taken the opportunity to quell the pretence that the groups late frontman was always looking to cause trouble.

I never had a crossed word with Freddie, he explained. I think thats an odd juxtaposition with Freddies image of being a prima donna. Actually he was the greatest diplomat and if there were arguments between us Freddie usually was able to sort them out. (C) Cover Media
