(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sam Rileys father pesters him to take roles in romantic comedies.

The handsome Brit gained acclaim for his portrayal of late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis in 2007 film Control, which charted the struggles of the English rock band. Ian committed suicide when he felt he couldnt balance his time between the group and his marriage.

Sam also features in an adaptation of Jack Kerouacs novel On the Road, the story of a failing writers journeys across the US. It is set for release this year.

However, the star has revealed that his father wants him to act in lighter roles and the overall impression of him is that he only ever agrees to serious jobs.

Thats what my dad keeps asking me. Im not offered many [romcoms], to be honest, he told Elle magazine. People just assume I want to kill myself, smoke, look unhappy or kill women. I think Im working myself into a moody corner.

The charismatic 31-year-old is unconcerned about being typecast as a miserable person though, insisting hes just acting. He knows some other people in the industry hate playing unappealing characters, which he cant fathom.

I think some people are worried about that stuff and they talk to the director about making the character more likeable, but that strikes me as odd, he explained. For what reason? Audiences will not want to see you again? (C) Cover Media
