Caleb Followill: I spent my childhood in a car

14th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Caleb Followill spent so much time travelling as a youngster the car window was his television.

The star is in American rock band Kings of Leon with his brothers Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill. Caleb, Nathan and Jared spent much of their childhood years touring southern America because their father Ivan known as Leon - was a preacher. Their mother Batty-Ann taught them at home when they didnt attend school, and their upbringing had a big effect on the boys.

We practically had no contact to pop culture - if you ignore the same Rolling Stones and Neil Young tapes our father would always listen to while driving, Caleb explained. If you grow up on the backseat of a car the window becomes the television."

The rock band are renowned for their wild antics, and have often spoken of the high jinks they get up to after drinking too much alcohol. They are known to have fallen out in past, and Caleb admits he sometimes yearns for a simpler life away from the road.

He recently proposed to his partner Lily Aldridge, but isnt sure he would be able to cope with a quiet life for too long. It's a wonderful distant imagination, that I will be sitting in a rocking chair on a terrace with lots of grandchildren surrounding me, he told the German edition of Glamour magazine. But if I will have that experience I will probably write a song real quickly in which it says, 'How could I? I need to go out of this!' I don't ask a lot from life I am still very modest. That's also the reason why I wouldn't call myself famous. Or a rock star. (C) Cover Media
