(Cover) - EN Fashion - Calvin Klein is turning its ck one fragrance line into an entire brand comprising jeans, underwear and swimwear.
The fashion house first launched the unisex fragrance ck one in 1994, and it now plans to expand that line to include clothing and appeal to a younger clientele.
The new ck one range will be available across the globe, and is expected to be more affordable than typical Calvin Klein garments, and even more successful.
"I think it could be bigger [than ck Calvin Klein]," said Tom Murry, the CEO and president of Calvin Klein Inc. in an interview with WWD.
Tom explained the new line will help Calvin Klein clothes reach a far wider audience, and he also thinks it will give the brand a sexier image.
"Ck is our bridge division in apparel and accessories, which we operate only in Europe and Asia at this time. By the price positioning of bridge, there is some limitation on how big that business can be, he explained.
The focus and concept of ck one is young and sexy, and to some degree price-driven. The price points are lower than in bridge, and this is a global launch, which gives [ck one] the opportunity to be a much bigger business over time.
Specific prices have not yet been decided on, but it is estimated the new line will be around 15-20 % lower than normal Calvin Klein jeans and underwear.
The global creative director for ck Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans and Calvin Klein white label, Kevin Carrigan, will be designing a collection of casual denim and cosy knitwear. The underwear is expected to include more novelty print styles as well as the usual simplistic designs.
A launch date is yet to be confirmed for the range. (C) Cover Media
