Cameron Diaz: My father wanted sons

17th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Cameron Diaz was interested in sport from an early age because her father always wanted a son.

The Hollywood actress grew up in Long Beach, California, with her parents Emilio and Billie, and her older sister Chimene. Cameron is known for her outgoing and active personality and she believes she has always been a tomboy because her dad only had daughters.

"My father wanted boys, so from a young age sports were always a big part of our lives," Cameron said in an interview with British newspaper The Mirror. "My parents were big on common sense and they always told my sister and I that we were capable of anything and there was nothing that we couldn't do if we really wanted to. I always felt confident that I could tackle the world."

Cameron, 38, can next be seen in comedy Bad Teacher, where she plays Elizabeth Halsey a woman who must return to her job at the local high school after she is jilted by her wealthy fianc. Elizabeth sets her sights on seducing a rich substitute teacher, played by Justin Timberlake, and will do anything to get him. Even though Elizabeth constantly shocks with her behaviour she sleeps during lessons, plays movies instead of teaching and abuses alcohol and drugs Cameron insists she never judged the character.

"Elizabeth's driven to get money so that she can get a new pair of boobs and she's looking for a guy who is rich enough so she never has to work again. She's convinced that if she gets those D-cups, they'll be her ticket out," she added. "I don't judge her. That's who she is. I live my life in a certain way and some women might look at what I do and ask, 'Why would she do that?' Why should I judge somebody else if I don't want to be judged myself?" (C) Cover Media
