Chaz Bono is ready to start wooing ladies with his new-found dance skills.

The former Dancing with the Stars contestant split from his fianc Jennifer Elia in December following a short-lived engagement. The pair had enjoyed a 12-year relationship.

Chaz is now ready to start dating again, and says his dancing abilities will definitely come in handy.

"I really want to start dancing again," he told People. "What a great skill: to be able to take a woman dancing... and actually know what you're doing!"

Chaz was born a woman and underwent surgeries between 2008 and 2010 to change his gender. The 42-year-old hopes that people will be able to see past that when he returns to the dating world.

"People focus on what's between your legs," he said. "If I never have bottom surgery [the procedure by which a penis is created], I'm fine. I feel 100 per cent male as I am."

Chaz struggled with a knee injury as a result of the strenuous rehearsals on Dancing with the Stars. However his aching joints aren't a major concern at the moment.

"When I was doing Dancing, I had a leak in my roof. A new roof was definitely more of a priority," he laughed.
