Superstar Sanjay Dutt was recently sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment in an arms case related to the 1993 Mumbai blasts (read news). There has been an uproar amongst the fans and the film industry, who find the judgment to be unfair.
As there have been pleas and requests to reconsider his punishment, Press Council Chief Markandey Katju has suggested that Sanjay Dutt should definitely send a personal plea to the Maharashtra governor, who could potentially use his powers to pardon the punishment.
Markandey Katju too, has asked the Maharashtra governor to pardon film star Sanjay Dutt in the case and the government too has promised that the matter will be looked into once the plea has been made by the actor.
However, the saffron brigade has opposed to these reconsiderations in the Sanjay Dutt case.
