Donna Karan: Jeans are a way of being

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Donna Karan says she considers jeans to be the international language of style.

The 61-year-old fashion designer is the namesake of the acclaimed American label DKNY (Donna Karan New York), which is celebrated for its modern apparel and stylish denim.

The fashionista admits her main inspiration for creating the first DKNY in the 90s was a desire to create the ideal pair of jeans, and says they are the ultimate garment in her eyes.

Originally, back in 1992, DKNY started because I couldnt find a pair of jeans... To me, jeans are the international language of style, she told the Australian edition of Vogue magazine.

Donna expanded on her passion for denim, explaining that to her, wearing jeans represents a lifestyle choice, and it was that she had in mind when she created the DKNY Jeans brand.

More than just denim, jeans are an attitude, a way of being. So its fast fashion hip, fresh, trendy whether you wear it in the day or to a rock concert, she added.

The New Yorker says the jeans she designed are especially created with city living in mind, and says she thinks her denim collections are edgier than her more elegant eveningwear collections.

DKNY Jeans became a line of its own. Its younger, edgier and completely about an urban jeans lifestyle, said the designer. (C) Cover Media
