The Welsh singer first heard a French person speak when she was listening to the radio and singer dith Piaf came on. She was amazed by what she was hearing, and immediately thought aliens had taken over the airwaves.

La Vie En Rose by dith Piaf came on the radio when I was little and I thought it was from another planet. I was a little girl from a small town in Wales and hadnt ever heard anything in French! She has such a unique, enigmatic voice, Duffy recalled.

Not all Duffys musical tastes were quite as high brow when she was growing up though. She developed a love of British boyband Ultimate Kaos and listened to their track Some Girls repeatedly.
