Big B's role in the Hollywood blockbuster 'The Great Gatsby' might simply be a small cameo, but the Bollywood superstar is winning rave reviews from the audiences and the critics for his role. At a recent event in B-town, where Big B was honored by a well renowned publication, the superstar expressed his experience as part of shooting for the Hollywood project.
The superstar had a witty start to the conversation as he commented that is he is the first Indian actor, who has not played an Indian in an International project. When asked about the difference in filmmaking in Bollywood and the West, the actor expressed that it was like day and night when it came to comparing the approach of filmmaking in Hollywood and Bollywood, and he was thoroughly impressed with Hollywood’s obsession for detailed research for each character in the project.
Big B further added that although his role in the film could be missed with a blink of an eye, yet as part of the workshop he had a 3-hour long narration session with his co-stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Tobey Maguire for his only scene. It was also a learning process for the actor as he saw the essence of detailing which reflected not only in the dialogues, but also when picking the clothes for the characters right down to the color, material and type of socks which for the most part are not that visible on the screen.
Sharing on his experience with the director and Leo, the actor was thoroughly fascinated with the fact that the actors not only work towards perfection in their role, but also make recommendations to further enhance their co-stars characters on screen. He cited the example of Leo, who advised the director to add the ‘molar cuffs’ detailing for Big B as it was an essence which he thought would further enhance Big B’s character in the scene, a fact that the director had missed from the script which is an adaption from the book.
Talking about movie promotions, Big B confessed that right from running strategic campaigns to targeted brand tie-ups, Hollywood is way far ahead when it comes to marketing their movies on the global platform. Talking about the big Hollywood studios making strides in B-town and representing our artists, the actor shared that he was quite amazed to learn that his co-star Leo does not have an agent in Hollywood.
