Emma Stone: Beauty is on the inside

22nd August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Emma Stone believes that the most "beautiful" people are those who exhibit great "confidence".

The 22-year-old actress had ample opportunity to explore her concepts of beauty while filming newest movie The Help. Emma plays Skeeter Phelan, an ambitious young writer who suffers from low self-esteem in the beginning of the film. Through portraying this character, Emma began to question how she defines attractiveness.

"I think at the beginning, understandably, [Skeeter] is deeply affected by her appearance and her mother's disapproval of it," Emma said to YouBeauty.com. "[Skeeter] was lucky enough to have [her maid] Constantine, who reminded her that she was beautiful and smart and could choose her life."

In Emma's opinion personal power is an important attribute. Traditional beauty has little bearing on how attractive a person may be. Emma thinks that inner radiance is more important than physical appearance.

"Confidence is the only key [to beauty]. I know a lot of people who aren't traditionally beautiful' not symmetrical or perfect-bodied or perfect-skinned. But none of that matters because all that shines through is their confidence, humour and comfort with themselves," Emma explained. "I can't think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself."

The Help is now in US theatres. (C) Cover Media
