Emma Watson deeply "relates" to late Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe.

Emma portrays wardrobe assistant Lucy in the new film My Week with Marilyn. Marilyn, who is played by actress Michelle Williams in this movie, died at the age of 36 from an overdose of barbiturates.

While shooting the feature Emma empathised with Marilyn, whose life and death was shrouded in tragedy and mystery.

"I certainly feel a lot for her and for what she went through," Emma told British newspaper the Mirror at the red carpet premiere of My Week with Marilyn in London yesterday night.

"I think Marilyn was just trying to find her feet in the midst of this kind of crazy circus that went on around her, and trying to find some sort of balance and some sort of normality in her life, and I can definitely relate to that."

Emma's life is stable at university. She was enrolled at Brown University in Rhode Island and is currently studying abroad at Oxford University in England.

Although she is focused on her scholarly pursuits, Emma still has copious film projects she looks forward to working on.

"There are a lot of things that I'm lining up," she said.
