Ewan McGregor: Acting isn't a struggle

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ewan McGregor thinks the perks of being an actor compensate for having to get up "stupidly early".

The 40-year-old Scottish actor is currently promoting drama Beginners, and still has as much passion for the art of moviemaking as he always did.

He admits some of the biggest setbacks are the long hours on set and early wake-up calls, but he still can't think of another job he would enjoy more.

"I've been lucky. I never struggled. Since I was nine I wanted to be an actor. My uncle is an actor, and early on it's all I ever wanted to be. Even if on a movie you have to be up stupidly early," he laughed.

Being a movie star also requires a great deal of globetrotting, which Ewan can sometimes find tiring. Ewan is married to Eve Mavrakis and he admits that spending time with her and their children is always a priority.

"Being home is a reward to my family. My wife and four girls - 15, two nine-year-olds and a baby of four months - often come with me if it's a holiday or my locations and their schedules allow. Sometimes we uproot them and put them in another school," he told the New York Post.

Ewan also took the time to discuss Beginners, which was directed by Mike Mills and also stars Christopher Plummer and Mlanie Laurent. He appreciates the importance the theme of family plays in the picture.

"It's based on our writer/director Mike Mills' experiences. His mother dies. After his father, whom Christopher Plummer plays and at 75 turns out to be gay, Oliver the son, whom I play, has a back and forth love story and gets to appreciate his father even more," he added. (C) Cover Media
