(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gemma Arterton admits she thought marriage was “pointless” until she met her husband.
The 24-year-old British actress shot to fame in 2008 playing Bond Girl Strawberry Fields opposite Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace and has gone on to become one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.
Earlier this year the beautiful star disappointed her male fans by marrying Italian partner Stefano Catelli in an intimate ceremony in Spain.
Gemma admits that she had never planned to wed because she had grown up surrounded by divorced couples, including her parents. But when she met Stefano she says her attitude rapidly changed.
“I never thought I’d get married because everybody in my life had been divorced,” she told the October issue of Glamour magazine. “Mum and dad, everybody, especially from the town I grew up in. I never saw successful marriages, so I always thought it was a pointless thing to do. But when I met Stefano, I just understood why you get married. Instantly. You become the same thing and you just grow together.”
Gemma went on to discuss how marriage has changed her, confessing that she has started to complain about her husband’s behaviour in the manner of a stereotypical grumbling wife.
“I’ve become more of a nag. You know when you watch husband and wife comedy sketches and the wife goes, ‘You gonna leave that there, are you?’ I never thought I’d become that person – until the wedding ring went on!” she laughed.
Gemma was quick to add that she loves married life though, and gushed about how sweet Stefano’s Italian accent is. She also praised her husband for his wacky personality and his romantic nature.
“I love being married. It’s wonderful. He speaks with a very strong Italian accent, it’s very, very sweet. He’s very humble, romantic and he makes me laugh, he’s an idiot!” she teased. (C) Cover Media
