George Michael: I know I am lucky

7th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - George Michael says he is always reminding himself how lucky he is.

The 47-year-old pop star is currently undergoing therapy for drug use, after he spent four weeks in jail last year after admitting possessing cannabis and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

George has revealed his problems with drugs stemmed from depression, and has urged the public not to assume stars are happy just because they are rich and famous. That said, George does understand he is in a fortunate position, explaining that being depressed makes him feel guilty.

Anti-depressants are miraculous but sometimes they really cloak whats going on, said George in an interview recorded for BBC Radio Two.

You think theres nothing to be depressed about. I try to remind myself how lucky I am...You feel more guilty.

George, who has reportedly split with boyfriend of 15 years Kenny Goss, discussed celebrity pals who had previously battled with drugs and had offered support during the time he was in prison. He found it amusing that singer Boy George got hold of him via emailaprisoner.com and wrote a lovely letter, and Sir Elton John also gave him advice.

The musician feels no different to any other person famous or not who has battled with drink and drug abuse and depression. Its the same as anyone elses story one way or another, he mused.

On a lighter note, George also explained how his new healthier approach to life is having a positive effect on his physique. The singer, who is returning to the limelight right now promoting a cover of the New Order hit True Faith for British charity Comic Relief, feels proud of his new slender legs.

I hope its evident Im not eating as much anymore. None of my trousers fit anymore - for the right reasons for a change, he laughed. (C) Cover Media
