India's nightingale, the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, turns 82 as she celebrates her birthday today 8th September 2015.

The iconic singer who was born into a musical family which included Master Deenanath Mangeshkar and her father who was also into classical music, without a shadow of a doubt had music in her blood.

Asha's career in Bollywood started in 1943 and once she stepped foot in the bollywood fraternity, there was simply no looking back for the immensely talented and versatile singer who then went on to sing in innumerable hit films from the 1940's till today spanning over six decades.

Asha is held high in esteem and is widely renowned for her voice range and versatility. Her superstardom in the music world is so gigantic that in 2011, she was officially acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history!!

Having said so much about this heavyweight singer, there are no prizes for guessing that Asha has won several awards for her work. She has won a Filmfare Award for the best female playback singer category in films like 'Dus Lakh', 'Shikhar', 'Caravan', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna', 'Naina', 'Praan Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye' and 'Don'.

In addition to this, she has won a special award for her work in 'Rangeela' and National Film Awards for her work in 'Umrao Jaan' and 'Ijaazat' and also an IIFA Award for 'Lagaan'.

In 2001, Asha reached the pinnacle of her career when she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Government for her contribution to the film industry.

All said and done, the iconic singer's grasp on the film fraternity is so firm that often aspiring singers of today idolise her and strive hard to replicate the amount of success she has achieved in her career.
