Happy Birthday Jamie Foxx!!!

13th December 2011

Hollywood Stand-up comedian and oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx celebrates his 44th birthday today.

Comedian, actor, singer. Born Eric Morlon Bishop on 13th December 1967 in Terrell, Texas. A talented singer, comedian, and actor, Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx has proved to be a triple treat in the entertainment industry.

The only man to have been nominated for an Oscar for 'Collateral' won an Oscar for Best Actor for 'Ray' and to have a number one single. A multi-talented star, he’s gone from stand-up comic to one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors in a few short years.

Best known for his comedy work, he has proved himself as a multifaceted entertainer, winning acclaim as an actor and musician. Foxx studied music at university in San Diego, but got sidetracked in to comedy when he did stand-up at a comedy club amateurs' night.

He became known for his appearances on comedy TV series, chiefly when he joined the cast of ‘In Living Color’ during the third series, a show which also starred Jim Carrey. Following the series Foxx was given his own show, ‘The Jamie Foxx Show’, producing 100 episodes from 1996 to 2001.

Foxx’s first prominent dramatic role came in 1999 when Oliver Stone cast him as the star quarterback in the American football-based film ‘Any Given Sunday’, in which he joined an ensemble cast that also included Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz and LL Cool J.

2004 was an exceptional and record breaking year for Foxx. He received critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, for his role in Michael Mann’s action film ‘Collateral’. Foxx played an ordinary cab driver who was hired for a night by a hit man, played by Tom Cruise, who was on a killing spree.

Foxx’s portrayal of Ray Charles in the film ‘Ray’ in the same year earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor, making him only the third black male actor to win the award (the other two being Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington). He was only the tenth person to have been nominated for both acting categories in the same year. He also received unprecedented three Golden Globe Award nominations in recognition of his work in 2004.

Following the success of the two movies, Foxx went on to star in ‘Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story’ (2005), which continued his run of critical acclaim. A Satellite Award for Best Actor came his way thanks to the television movie, which explored the life of the co-founding member of the ‘Crips’ street gang.

‘Stealth’, ‘Jar Head’ and ‘Miami Vice’ saw him take on military and police roles in 2005 and 2006. The latter was a loose adaptation of the 1980s TV series of the same name and featured Colin Farrell. It received generally positive reviews, although there were some negative critiques in a number of leading publications.

He went on to team up with Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson and Danny Glover in ‘Dreamgirls’ (2006), which won a number of awards and earned him nominations along the way. The Kingdom’ (2007), as well as 2009’s ‘The Soloist’ and ‘Law Abiding Citizen’, kept Foxx busy and led to further award nominations.

Joining one of the largest all-star ensemble casts in recent times, Foxx went on to star in 2010 film ‘Valentine’s Day’. It featured A-listers including Ashton Kutcher, Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway and Queen Latifah and was a box office success despite getting negative reviews.

Foxx is also a singer and accomplished musician. He released his first album ‘Peep This’ in 1994 and more recently in 2005, the album ‘Unpredictable’.
