Rangeela girl Urmila Matondkar has her birthday today, i.e. Februray 4.
Born in a Marathi family in Mumbai in the year 1974, she came from a simple family with her father working as a lecturer. But little Urmila always dreamed big.
Urmila's first role as a child artist was in 1981 with Kalyug and she achieved success at the age of 9 in Shekhar Kapur's Masoom in 1983. Her debut as an adult was through the film Bade Ghar Ki Beti but she was actually established and recognised for her role in Ram Gopal Varma's film Rangeela in 1995. Ram Gopal Varma’s thriller Satya (1998) earned Urmila wide acclaim and a Filmfare nomination. She did many films wit RGV and won a lot of critical acclaimation for them. During the early 2000s Urmilla delivered a number of critically acclaimed performances in films like Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Pinjar (2003) and Bhoot (2003). Her last release was Karzzzz (2008) in which she starred opposite Himesh Reshammiya. The film was a remake of 1980’s hit film of the same name but it failed at the box-office.
In 2007, Urmila Matondkar lent her voice for Asha Bhonsle's album Asha and Friends Vol 1, where she performed with Bhosle the duet song "Mehbooba Dilruba". In fact, throughout the 1990s – 2000s, Bhosle sang the maximum number of songs for Urmila. In that same year, she was seen on the second season of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on Sony Television as a judge along with Jeetendra and Shiamak Davar. Urmila Matondhar made her television debut through the show Waar Parriwar and later she was also seen as a judge on the dance reality show Chak Dhoom Dhoom.
