(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Hugh Hefner believes he "dodged a bullet" when his ex-fianc Crystal Harris called off their wedding.

The 85-year-old Playboy founder and the 25-year-old Playmate were due to marry in a highly-anticipated ceremony at the Playboy mansion last month.

However, just days before the planned nuptials it was revealed Crystal had moved out and had called off the wedding after experiencing a "big change of heart".

Crystal later explained that the cancellation of the wedding and her split from Hugh was because she felt "it wasn't right".

Hugh, who says he was initially saddened by the news, has now revealed he is counting his blessings that he didn't go ahead with the planned nuptials.

"Holly [Madison] suggested that I missed a bullet, and I think it's probably true," he told Entertainment Tonight.

"Quite frankly, I don't know what I was thinking about. I think my natural state is single. I've tried marriage twice, not successfully. These were not the happiest times of my life."

Hugh also revealed he was appalled by the way Crystal handled the situation. The businessman, who is beginning to make sense of his public break-up with the star, believes the blonde bombshell could have given him more warning about the way she felt.

"If you're having reservations about the person you've been with for two-and-a-half years, the logical thing is to sit down and talk about it," he said.

Hugh is confused that a seemingly smitten Crystal called off the ceremony in the first place. The infamous ladies' man revealed the popular Playmate often poured her heart out to him in various letters and cards.

"Birthday cards were filled with messages of forever. You're the man of my dreams, I'll love you for the rest of my life.' There was no clue. I didn't see any of this coming," he revealed.

The former pair's nuptials were due to take place June 18. Hugh announced Crystal's "change of heart" just four days before the scheduled date. (C) Cover Media
