Hugh Jackman plans UK concerts

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Hugh Jackman is planning to stage several music concerts in London.

The actor will be in the UK shooting the big screen version of musical Les Misrables next year. He has recently staged a show in Toronto, where he sang a number of show tunes from Oklahoma!, Carousel and Dreamgirls. Hugh had such fun putting the concert together he's decided to bring it to the British capital, explaining it has something for everyone. He's modelled it on the performance of old greats like Frank Sinatra, and is proud of what he's come up with.

"I wanted to create a show where I can't wait to do it," he told British newspaper The Daily Mail.

"I loved that anything can happen', relaxed feel about Sinatra - and viewing Peter Allen's tapes also taught me a lot. We're planning to do some Sunday night concerts when I'm in London in the spring.

"We're looking for the right space, and the idea is to do the shows when I've got time off from Les Misrables. I just want them to be fun."

The Toronto shows saw Hugh take to the stage with a couple of Broadway performers. He also had a 17-piece band backing him up as he showed off his vocal talents.

The Les Misrables movie is being directed by Tom Hooper and will see Hugh portraying Jean Valjean. The character is a former convict seeking redemption, and the story follows him as he tries to carve out a new life.

While the musical includes no dialogue the picture version will have some speaking. Hugh explained he was so keen for the part he was open with Tom about how much it meant to him.

"I got cast early, because there was another movie I could do and I didn't want to wait and get to November to find I had no movie at all. I told them that and I eventually got it," he revealed. (C) Cover Media
