Jada Pinkett Smith gave up rock career for family

29th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jada Pinkett Smith says she gave up her dreams of being a rock star for the sake of her family.

The mother-of-two, who is married to Hollywood actor Will Smith, insists that her role as a parent was too important and had to be sacrificed ahead of her own ambitions with heavy metal band Wicked Wisdom.

In a new interview with the August issue of Redbook Magazine, Jada reveals the difficult personal and career decisions she has had to make.

"I had to make choices. Believe me, I would still be on the road with my band Wicked Wisdom, and making as many movies as I can a year, and doing all sorts of things if I didn't have the responsibility of a family," she shared.

Jada is mother to young pop singer Willow who had a huge hit last year with Whip My Hair and son Jaden who played the lead role in hit movie The Karate Kid.

Jada revealed she turned down the opportunity to tour with Guns N' Roses when Jaden was auditioning for The Pursuit of Happyness.

But Jada, who stars in television show HawthoRNe, says she has no regrets.

"I have children with their own talents and dreams, and I know I have to be standing next to them for that journey," she surmised.

And although she has fears about them growing up in Hollywood she knows that it is down to her and Will to set a good example.

"It still makes me nervous that they're part of something that isn't totally real," Jada admitted. "But it's up to Will and me to teach them what's real and what's not." (C) Cover Media
