(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Van Der Beek wanted to look his daughter in the eyes before naming her.

The 33-year-old American actor and his wife Kimberly had their first child, called Olivia, on September 25 this year.

The actor has revealed he wanted to meet the new addition to his family before deciding on what name suited her best, and his wife admitted she off-loaded the all-important responsibility onto James.

I gave him full naming power, Kimberly said.

We wanted her to come out and then see what her name would be. She looked like an Olivia, James added to People magazine.

The couple have also revealed they named their baby after an Olive tree which was special to them in Israel, where the couple first met.

The country is very important to the pair, who also married there, and they returned to the location after discovering they would be parents.

We spent time under it when we first met in Israel, then we went back to this tree when I was pregnant, Kimberly said. (C) Cover Media
