(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jay-Z and Kanye West are rumoured to be performing together at tonight's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The pair have made a joint album called Watch the Throne, which was one of the most hotly-anticipated hip-hop releases of recent times.

According to E! Online, the two rappers are planning to take to the stage at the awards ceremony tonight. It was previously unknown whether they would even be attending. Although the seats at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre are already labelled for guests, none of them boast the pair's names.

"I'm told most of the MTV crew and production team don't even know yet when they'll actually take the stage during the show," Marc Malkin reports for E! Online.

There is further speculation Jay-Z's wife Beyonc Knowles might join them, as she features on one of the record's tracks.

Kanye has a chequered past with the VMAs. He stormed the stage when Taylor Swift won the best female video prize for You Belong With Me in 2009, saying Beyonc should have triumphed for the promo for Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).

It's already been confirmed that Lady Gaga will open tonight's show, with Adele and Chris Brown also performing. There will also be a tribute to late singer Amy Winehouse, while Britney Spears will be honoured in a special segment.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine won't be attending proceedings, having blasted the ceremony on Twitter yesterday.

"the VMA's. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. f**k you VMA's (sic)," he wrote. (C) Cover Media
