(Cover) - EN Movies - Johnny Depp has joked he wants Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides to win at the Cannes International Film Festival.
The fourth instalment of the swashbuckling franchise is being screened at the prestigious French event, something Johnny cant get over. He has made the role of Captain Jack Sparrow famous and never expected to be showcasing the pirate at the renowned date in the film calendar.
The festival is famed for handing out prizes, such as the exclusive Palme d'Or, to the best movies shown, and Johnny is tipping his release as a contender this year.
An arena such as Cannes as a place to go show your film, to go into that place and show it on that grand scale is pretty incredible. I feel very, very fortunate to have been invited there. And I just hope we win! he laughed to Cover Media.
Johnny thinks it will take some time for the news the movie is showing at Cannes to sink in. Although he tries not to pay too much attention to critics he hopes it goes down well, acting as if questions about how he wants the movie to be received didnt need answering as what it means to him is so obvious.
Well I hope they hate it! No That would be actually a pretty interesting idea to make a film that everyone will hate. To see if theyll just hate it Ive done it before havent I? Youre just too kind to mention the film, he said.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is released in the UK on May 18. (C) Cover Media
