Jon Hamm: I hated working in porn

22nd March 2012

Jon Hamm found his time working in soft porn "depressing."

The 42-year-old Mad Men actor did stints at several jobs he didn't like before he rose to fame.

Jon recalled a particularly saucy gig he had in the past to Anderson Cooper on an upcoming episode of the journalist's talk show.

"I was a set dresser. I guess the most politic term is sort of like Skinemax movies," Jon revealed on Anderson.

"There's a very big difference. There's a huge chasm between chasm's a terrible word to use. you don't really want to talk about chasms and porn. There was nothing tasteful about it. It was depressing."

Jon felt objectified on the shoot and that exacerbated his melancholy.

"There was a reason that I was hired to do that job and it wasn't because they needed somebody excellent in that position. If they were focusing on whether the ashtray was in the right place then someone else had done their job terribly," he laughed. "So it was a couple of weeks and it was a pretty depressing way to make a couple hundred bucks a day."

Overall Jon is happy that he took the job despite the discomfort he experienced on set those two weeks.

"It was a learning experience," he said.

Jon's full interview will air on the US on Anderson Friday.

The fifth season of Mad Men will premiere this Sunday March 25.
